Neighbourhood Policing

Police Force:
Find a Local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

The North Prospect neighbourhood has a population of 5,693 and is an urban estate on the west side of Plymouth. The estate consists of a large proportion of Plymouth Community Homes tenants but many members of the community have purchased their property having lived in the community for most or all of their lives. The area has undertaken massive regeneration over the last 5 years, which has seen vast improvements and refurbishment of properties. The locality seems to be a thriving and ambitious area, with lowering levels of crime and a real sense of community.

Working Together

As your local neighbourhood police team, we know only too well that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is not just a job for the police. Besides relying heavily on the co-operation of the community, we also work very closely with partner organisations and individuals in the city. We have a particularly close working relationship with a wide range of staff from many different departments of Plymouth City Council who are invaluable in terms of helping us make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to be.

For example we rely on the Council's Anti Social Behaviour unit for specialist help in securing ASBO's [soon to be replaced by a similar but alternatively named order], court injunctions and drug den closures. We work alongside this unit and local housing officers in any cases where residents may be evicted from their homes.

When it comes to common problems such as graffiti, littering, dog fouling and noisy neighbours, we join forces with the Council's Enviromental Protection Team to deal with offenders. This includes dealing with young people who are either causing trouble in their local communities - or are likely to get drawn into anti-social behaviour. We team up with the youth Offending Service, various other Council youth services and local schools.

Its also worth noting the valuable and priceless contribution the volunteers on the estate provide. All eager to make the patch a better place to live. These include workers in the community centers, Street reps, NHW co-ordinators and many more working within our individual organisations.

We work closely with both your Neighbourhood Management Team and the Plymouth Community Homes Team

The North Prospect Neighbourhood Policing team with the help of our partners are committed to the challenging task of reducing crime, the fear of crime and antisocial behaviour in the locality. Our focus is on achieving an acceptable quality of life for the residents of North Prospect.
