Cowick

Cowick has a population of approximately 5,700. It is a mainly urban ward in the residential suburbs of Exeter.

The population is varied across the entire area, more than 80% of the dwellings are owner-occupied and unemployment rates are consistent with the Exeter average. There are a small number of local shops that provide for the area, however, the majority of the public houses and supermarkets are in neighbouring wards and the city centre.

Cowick is a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime well below the national average. In addition, incidents of serious crime are very low indeed. Overall crime in the area in 2007 reduced by 64% compared to the previous calendar year.

The neighbourhood team is working hard with the community to identify issues of concern, the outcome of this is that we are targeting pockets of antisocial behaviour and speeding commuters.

Follow PCSO Malcolm on Facebook for updates on what work he is doing in the community of Cowick - https://www.facebook.com/ScottishPCSO/

St Thomas

is a predominantly residential area although it incorporates a number of retail premises, popular pubs and take aways. These are centred in and around the area of Cowick Street.

The beat boundary stretches from Okehampton Street/Road, Buddle Lane, Cowick Lane, Cowick Barton Playing Fields, some of Alphington Road and Exebridges Retail Park. The area is served by two primary Schools, Montgomery and St Thomas and is the main catchment area for West Exe Technology College.

We have some fantastic open spaces in the area namely Flowerpots, St Thomas Pleasure Ground, Cowick Barton and Pinces Gardens as well as an excellent leisure complex at the Riverside.

Although St Thomas is geographically small, it is densely populated (approximately 6,400) by a mixture of diverse groups.
