The Chaddlewood area of Plympton has a population of approximately 8,400. It is entirely urban, but being on the edge of a large town it does border onto some rural areas.

The population is predominantly white British, with a very small percentage of visible ethnic minorities. It continues to expand with new developments being built in a number of locations. Younger families occupy many of the new houses with older communities being more focused in the established areas of the neighbourhood.

Much of the activity – whether commercial, social or policing – is focused around the complex at the top of Glen Road, due to the concentration of shops and licensed premises there.

The neighbourhood team is based at Plympton police station, which in turn is one of two stations making up the east sector of Plymouth.

Chaddlewood is a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime being well below the national average. In addition, incidents of serious crime are very low indeed.

The main problems are spontaneous incidents of vandalism committed by those passing through the area. There are also problems regarding the fear of crime. Some of this is caused by differing views of what is acceptable causing relatively low-level behaviour being interpreted as a significant threat.
