These two areas are not simply two wards but in fact contain numerous identifiable communities within them. Both are built on a very hilly area on the northern outskirts of Exeter, a fact which has had a large effect on how the area has developed socially.

Duryard is dominated by the main campus of Exeter university – almost a small town in its own right. To the north is a sizeable residential area. The residents there are relatively ‘static’, with long-term residency being the norm. Crime levels are incredibly low.

Pennsylvania has three main residential developments, two schools and a small number of shops. Crimes such as burglary and theft of vehicles are also very low here. Incidents of relatively low-level antisocial behaviour occur and there are occasional issues surrounding certain houses and drug culture.

Both wards are crossed from north to south by arterial roads entering Exeter. Interestingly, an issue common to both wards is speeding, mainly along these roads. While I am applying a short-term response (I will be trained in the use of the hand-held speed gun) I am attempting to identify a long-term solution to this issue, rather than simply relying on a short-term fix.
