Basingstoke East, situated in the north-east corner of Basingstoke, is a relatively wealthy area and comprises of Chineham and Old Basing. It has a very high proportion of either privately-owned or privately rented homes. New housing is continuing to be built in the area the latest estate Sherfield Park is located on the A33.
Chineham is an attractive and established residential area served by Four Lanes Primary Schools, Chineham shopping centre (includes Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Matalan, Boots) as well as local convenience stores, pharmacy, off-license, Chineham Doctor’s Surgery, dentist, florist, village hall and an Indian restaurant. There are numerous play parks around the area and many of the residents are families with young children.
Chineham and Old Basing are generally thought of as a low crime and low disorder area but do occasionally suffer from travelling criminals. There is also some youth nuisance and anti-social behaviour problems.
