Neighbourhood Policing

Police Force:
Find a Local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

York suffers the same types of crimes that you would expect in other cities but it does remain one of the safest cities in the country, and it is our intention to work with our partner agencies and do our very best to make it even safer.

The York City Safer Neighbourhood Area was created on the 21 March 2011 as part of a restructure by North Yorkshire Police. The areas boundaries are the city walls and include the Museum Gardens.

The Inspector-led policing team devoted to the area consists of four Sergeants and 31 Police Constables who work 24/7 and are available to respond to immediate calls for service. They are supported by a Problem Solving Sergeant and three dedicated Beat Managers who are assisted on their areas by seven Police Community Support Officers who work between 8am and midnight.
