Neighbourhood Policing

Police Force:
Find a Local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

Torre and Upton consists of individual areas of Torre and Upton. The two areas were merged together in 2010 to form the new Torre and Upton ward which was previously known as Tormohun.

The ward is at the heart of a vibrant community in Torquay. Areas such as Brunswick Square, Lymington Road and Castle Circus provide some of the commercial areas in the ward.

The area is home to a variety of different groups of people. A large percentage of the population is made up of young adults, and people who live in multi-occupancy accommodation or flats.

There are also significant populations of families with at least one child, young couples and people living in recently built housing.

Working in partnership

As your local neighbourhood police team, we know only too well that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is not just a job for the police.

Besides relying heavily on the co-operation of the local community, we also work very closely with various partner organisations and individuals in Torre and Upton.

We have a particularly close working relationship with a wide range of staff from many different departments of Torbay Council who are invaluable in terms of helping us make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to be.

For example we rely on the Torbay Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Team which are specialist council officers that help in securing ASBOs, court injunctions and drug den closures.

We work alongside this unit and local housing officers in any cases where residents may be evicted from their homes.

When it comes to common problems such as graffiti, littering, dog fouling and noisy neighbours, we join forces with the Council’s Environmental Protection Team to deal with offenders.

And in dealing with young people who are either causing trouble in their local communities - or are likely to get drawn into anti social behaviour - we team up with the Youth Offending Service, various other Council youth services and local schools.
