The town of Honiton is set in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside and has a population of more than 13,000. It is the gateway to east Devon and is a busy market town with links to the pottery and lace industries.

It emerged as a coaching stop on the busy London to Exeter route and by the mid-19th century there were some 24 coaching inns. That traditional hospitality continues today with the town offering visitors a warm and friendly welcome.

The current population is varied and has grown considerably over the past 10 years as the road links between the town and Exeter have improved.

Honiton is an extremely safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime falling well below the national average. In addition, incidents of serious crime are very low indeed.

The main concern is spontaneous incidents of criminal damage committed by people making their way home after evenings out in the town. There are also issues around the fear of crime, much of which is influenced by differing views on what is acceptable in relation to antisocial behaviour.
