I wonder what has happened to the house and who lives there now.
Mrs Johnstone was mentioned in the Hamilton Advertiser in September 1914 for organising 'gifts of comfort' for Territorial Troops during the 1st World War.
Joseph Johnson J.P. gave his address as Eskdale in 1929 and was listed in the Belfast News (11th march 1929) as being the chairman of Joseph Johnson & Boath Ltd and the Director of Manor Powis Coal Co Ltd.
In 1931 Joseph stood among 13 men who were charged with fraud in connection with Scottish Amalgamated Silks Ltd. The case received widespread press attention and was dubbed the "Silks Case".
A piece in the Dundee Evening Telegraph dated 17th February 1931 suggests the accused were sent to Duke Street prison after being charged at a court hearing in Glasgow.
An obituary in the Dundee evening Telegraph dated the 5th April 1937 says that two charges against him returned a verdict of "not proven" and "not guilty". The newspaper mentioned that Joseph died at Eskdale aged around 70.
The house seems to have lost its name since the 1940's and now is just a numbered property in Milrig Road.
There is a road nearby called Johnston Drive. Maybe in recognition of Joseph's long service to Rutherglen Town Council?
I am very grateful to you for all the information you have discovered. We live in Oxford, but when this Coronavirus is over we plan to drive north to see some of the places where my family lived. First stop will be Glaisters Lodge, west of Dumfries, where Joseph Johnstone entertained shooting parties. (I have photos of my parents taken in the 1930s. I have found a photo of Glaisters on the web as it is now.
After Rutherglen we will drive north to Duthill near Boat of Garten where my father's father was born. (He moved to Liverpool in the late 19th century.

Why is the road called Napps Way (belonging to Napp, but minus an
apostrophe as is usual with such nomenclature)? Moreover, who or
what is, or was, “Napp” in the respective, possessive case?
Several years ago, I met an elderly man (probably in his late-eighties)
who lives on Bentham Drive, Liverpool 16, and during a conversation
with him whilst in a Northwest Passenger Transport Ambulance on the
way to the former RLUH (Royal Liverpool University Hospital), he told
me that he could remember (when he was a boy, living in Childwall,
Liverpool 16) that, “Where Napps Way is now, during WW2, there was
a two-man gun emplacement on the, then, open land to protect the
railway line passing over Childwall Valley Road - next to the railway
bridge - when suddenly, as they were loading a live “shell” into the gun’s
breach, the aforementioned “shell” accidentally exploded in the gun’s
breach killing both of the two soldiers, that had been manning the gun,
instantly! (Very sad, of course, but could - perhaps - two ghosts relating
to those two, very unfortunately and prematurely-killed soldiers have
haunted that place of their deaths ever since - and have any residents
of Napps Way - formerly and in its latest incarnation - seen two, WW2
(uniformed) soldiers unexpectedly appear in or near their homes?)
