Back in the early 60s I spent some ( school) holidays staying with my elder sister and her husband, tha latter a resident and soldier forming a life with a parachute regiment known as the red devil's. Life for me a 14 year old
was thrilling then. Great Times for being discarded by parents but continually thrilled by staying away from home.
Every day gleaned excitement, with things to see and do.
I remember sleeping on a camp bed, in their apartment in what then was known as Macadam Square. This, probably no longer exists!
Big thrill to find new places to explore and occasionally supported by the most friendly locals. Great fun, despite getting lost, always assisted by safe return by one local or another.
Sad now, but living in N,west Shropshire, I still get an urge to return. Last visit was mercenary, having the opportunity to relive the Farnborogh airshow years ago, but family long gone from what was a thrilling holiday then. Now no hope of going back now, a well worn out 76 year old!
