I am lead to believe thar Buffie is an old Scots word for rabbits. The street was at one time called Buffies Brae Street.
Buffies Brae does not link Chalmers Street and Golfdrum Street, it is part of a three way junction where the three streets meet. Check your own map. The bottom of the Brae at used to carry on through to Bruce Street but was blocked about 50 years ago. Bruce Street (north end) disappeared when Tesco built there supermarket.
