Occasional travel to the other sites will be required but will be rare.

Production Team Leader, Taw Valley

We’re one of the world’s biggest dairy producers. Join our Taw Valley site in Devon as a Production Team Leader and improve the way we make food that is loved by millions. We currently have a vacancy within our Cheese and Liquids production department for a shift team leader. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team in a very busy department, ensuring that the production team and area is managed in-line with the Arla goals and values of Lead, Sense and Create. There are four shifts working 365 days per year 24/7 on a four on four off days / nights shift pattern.

About the job

The Cheese and Liquids department is a fast-paced production area where we produce up to 41,000 tonnes of cheese per year. Safety will be the first on your personal agenda in everything you and your team do. You will work closely with the Production Manager and alongside the three other shifts. The operation includes the management of our Milk Intake area / Liquid processing and all aspects within the dairy as part of our cheese making process. You will coordinate different tasks throughout the operation to ensure food safety and manufacturing guideline compliance, coordination of engineering tasks and manage local Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs). Service to our customers and cost savings will also be part of the role, working with bright ideas from colleagues to improve the process and reduce waste. Collaboration and team working are fundamental to the success of the Dairy. You will recognise the importance of internal supplier/customer relationships and will enable continuous improvement on site.

Who are you?

You have outstanding communication skills with the ability to engage, motivate and inspire at all levels. You will have gained experience within a similar supervisory/people management role ideally within a food production environment, with a proven ability to manage against health and safety/food hygiene principles. You will also be familiar with Outlook, Excel, Word and power point and preferably have a good understanding of SAP.

Finally, you will need to possess the personal drive to improve and be confident in taking initiative on your own.

Our cheeses including cheddar, red Leicester, double Gloucester, organic, and reduced fat are supplied into supermarkets all over the UK along with our own brands Tickler, and Anchor. Other brands made within Arla include Cravendale and Lurpak.

You are
A multiskilled and qualified engineer with FMCG manufacturing experience and a good understanding of LEAN techniques. You’re used to working to professional and industry standards, and you’re confident with both electrical and mechanical engineering. You’re an excellent communicator too – able to work with others to deliver results and drive meaningful improvements. Importantly you also complete risk assessments and standard maintenance procedures to ensure that we are always up to date, which will keep our quality, safety, hygiene and housekeeping.

The Ingredients department at Arla Foods produces 18000 tons of permeate powder and 4000 tons of whey protein concentrate using membrane, evaporator and drying technology. Our customers use the products as ingredients in foods and dry blend products, and therefore have high demands for quality and food safety. Our raw material is based on whey, which comes from quality cheese production at Taw Valley.

…by ensuring that our products can be accurately delivered to our customers on time. As a Process Technician you will be part of a high-performance team both delivering and supporting other functions to meet challenging team and personal goals. You will primarily be involved with:

* Leading production of demineralized ‘dry blend’ permeate powder and whey protein concentrate (WPC60) to the expected quality standards
* Operating, monitoring and cleaning highly automated processing equipment – membranes, evaporators & dryer.
* Monitoring quality of liquid and powder products during production and dispatch.
* Problem solving and giving input to continuous improvements, to support our LEAN focused business.
* Accurately completing documentation for food safety and traceability.
* Proactively maintaining strict food hygiene and health and safety standards in the department.

It’s a fast-paced site and the role will involve working on a 4 days on 4 days off shift basis, alternating days and nights (06:00-18:00, or 18:00-06:00).

Your skills
