About the Surveyor opportunities:

Our operations production team captures, maintains, manages and delivers the most detailed location data in England, Scotland and Wales.

Every day we make 20,000 updates to our master map of Great Britain, which holds 500 million geospatial features. Using the latest geospatial technologies, we’re now driving innovation and investing in even faster ways to collect and provide data.

We want you to join us on our continuous drive for improvement. As an OS Surveyor, you’ll plan, collect, assess, edit and maintain geospatial information using relevant survey methods to meet customer requirements.

We’re looking for Surveyors to be based in various areas of GB:

- East: Kings Lynn, Thetford, Diss, Lowestoft , Stamford, Newark, Derby Notts

- Wales and the West: North West Wales (in Porthmadog), Aberystwyth, Swansea, South East Wales, Bristol

- North: Cumbria (in particularly Kendal/Penrith), Preston/Lancaster, NE Manchester M62 corridor area (ideally Rochdale to Halifax area), Skipton

- South: Brighton , Central Sussex, North Wealden LA (East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells), North East Kent

Skills and experience to become our Surveyor:


- Spatial awareness

- IT skills

- Leaner and a desire to continuously improve

- Skills using geographic information systems

- Communication and problem-solving skills

- Organisational skills, good at working independently

- Team player, particularly as part of a dispersed team

- Able to travel, with some overnight stays in Great Britain, and potentially overseas

- Full driving licence


- Experience in the geospatial information industry

- Experience of data capture and edit platforms

- Land Surveying degree, or similar qualification

- Experience in boundary surveying, land admin solutions, both cadastre and general boundaries

Important information to consider before you apply:

- Need to live in a specified location, or be willing to relocate to an agreed area before joining OS

- Will need to work from home, with a suitable workspace

- Spatial awareness is essential, and we’ll test this at interview

- You must be available for a 10-week period of continuous training at our Head Office, Southampton, or in training blocks throughout the year at regionally based locations if appropriate

- After initial training, surveyors will also be required to continue their development including attaining AssocRICS qualification

- Surveyor roles are suitable for flexible working but not suitable for part-time or job share

The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways are two narrow gauge steam railways operated by the Festiniog Railway Company, offering quality tourist transport through the Snowdonia National Park. Porthmadog Booking Office is the commercial administrative hub for both railways.

The post holder is responsible for assisting the Booking Offices Manager in the day to day running of Porthmadog Booking Office including ticket sales, advance bookings, customer enquiries and special events. In addition, the post holder will have a specific responsibility for the administration for functions and charter trains, working closely with the Booking Offices Manager; ensuring group travel invoices are processed and filed according to Company procedures and for the credit control of traffic related invoices; and for maintaining and updating the Traffic Cash Book.

This is a ‘Front of House’ position so excellent communication skills and a cheerful disposition are essential either orally or in written communication. The ability to communicate in Welsh, both oral and written, is desirable. The successful candidate must have good computer skills and be experienced in using all Microsoft Office applications including Excel, and comfortable with data entry, mail merge and other functions. They must be numerate, literate and accurate and have the ability to make or act on quick decisions in the event of train failure and other ‘out of the ordinary’ situations.

This position is based at our Porthmadog Station however applicants must be prepared to work at other stations if required. Weekend & Bank Holiday working will be required for this position. Some shift work – early opening / late closing in high summer.
