Embedded Software Engineer – Firmware

Embedded software engineer designing precision instrumentation for the rail sector.

You will be developing low level embedded software for challenging projects, there are interesting problems to solve & you will be trusted with proper ownership over how you deliver your projects, what techniques, tools and technology will deliver the best results.

You will be primarily developing new products end to end, incorporating modern communications technology and improving previous product iterations.

Essential requirements:

* Commercial experience of writing embedded firmware in C and assembly and bare-metal programming
* Experience with common bus protocols (UART, USB, I2C, SPI)
* Experience with firmware testing (unit, regression etc)
* Experience with new board ‘bring up’ and debugging the hardware/firmware interface using tools such as logic analysers, oscilloscopes and protocol sniffers

Excellent role for an electronics engineer to work for one of the world’s leading suppliers of maintenance and inspection equipment for the worldwide railway market. As part of an investment into the instrumentation development department a vacancy for an electronics engineer in the company’s newly extended facility in Liphook, Hampshire.

The successful candidate will have a hand’s on approach to instrumentation development with involvement in all aspects of the product engineering process, from PCB design, firmware development, manufacturing documentation, prototype assembly and testing, small batch manufacture and post production support.

Working as part of a small dynamic team, the candidate will liaise with the existing electronic engineers, as well as mechanical and software engineers, to maintain and develop a range of world class digital measuring instrumentation.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience of electronic hardware design with proven experience in embedded systems development preferably with PIC microcontroller devices. The equipment is used for real time measurements on railway track for a wide range of parameters through the use of battery operated portable systems, experience of similar real world applications is thus of significant benefit, direct railway experience is not a requirement. Liaison with European manufacturing facilities will be required on a regular basis.

A salary of approximately £30,000-£35,000 per annum would be offered, a contributory pension and healthcare benefits are also available.
