At Merchants Transport Limited we have an excellent opportunity available for a Transport Manager to join our expanding business. With a current fleet of 12 vehicles and a stable customer base, there are significant plans for growth and development, therefore, whilst this position is initially for an anticipated period of 12 months as maternity cover, there is every likelihood that a permanent position will be available for the right candidate.

Reporting to the Director, the Transport Manager will be directly responsible for all aspects involved in the management and compliance of the fleet, sub-contracted owner / driver transport companies, driver agencies, other suppliers; and the organisation, planning and administration of the distribution and delivery system, ensuring opportunities are maximised on and costs are controlled in the most efficient manner possible.

Duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

* Ensuring the Company meets the requirements of the Operator Licence at all times and that all external compliance issues are dealt with.
* Continually working on and maintain the Companys FORS standing.
* Dealing with and negotiating with suppliers as required. This includes driver agencies.
* The day to day management of drivers and support personnel including the on-site mechanic.
* Involvement in the recruitment of HGV drivers and support personnel, including interviewing and ensuring all new employees are inducted and trained accordingly.
* Investigating accidents, incidents and complaints.
* Load planning, ensuring the most cost effective routing and compliance with drivers hours legislation.
* Continually seek out general haulage and return load opportunities in order to gain additional profitable revenue into the business.
* Be in charge of the out of hours mobile phone and action or forward on communications as appropriate.

The successful Transport Manager must have the following:

* Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport (National).
* Strong UK geographical knowledge including route planning
* Two years experience in a Transport Manager or similar role.
* Good accuracy, organisational, numeracy and literacy skills, as well as a strong grasp of I.T
* Excellent communications skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels, whilst maintaining excellent customer service and professionalism at all times.
* The ability to think logically and make decisions quickly.
* HGV Class 1 or 2 Licence would be desirable, but not essential.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, however this could be flexible to suit.

Job Description - Trainee Technical Engineer

The Trainee Technical Engineer will be trained to manage all aspects involved in the preparation of lintel schedules and quotations taking into account loadings, spans and building use in order that the quotations are based on the best economic use of the lintel product range. The Trainee Technical Engineer's role will involve full support and training so you can become a qualified Technical Engineer and fulfil the following job tasks:

Identify customer requirements

Prepare, check and submit quotations from customer drawings, specifications and other documents

Manage the commercial and contractual vetting and entry of orders received as a result of the quotation

Maintain IT systems

Manage queries or customer complaints relating to price and level of service given at quotation stage

Attend customer site visits to resolve issues where required.

Skills/ Experience required for the Trainee Technical Engineer:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Structural Engineering and/or a construction qualification (desired).

A Levels in Maths & Physics Grade C or above (minimum GCSE grade C and above in Maths & Physics)

Strong numeracy and analytical skills

Knowledge of MS Office and ability to pick up new software easily

Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Confident communication and interpersonal skills

Self motivated and driven with a positive attitude, a desire to do well, ambitious

Technically minded and good with figures.

At Merchants Transport Limited we have a number of excellent permanent opportunities available for HGV / LGV Class 1 Drivers to join our expanding haulage business.

We are currently seeking Heavy Goods Vehicle HGV / Large Goods Vehicle LGV Drivers Class 1 / Class C+E drivers to join our Monday to Friday operation, delivering into merchants, building sites and various other customer locations.

We are based in Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire and deliver to and collect from customers throughout the UK. Start and finish times are dependent on planned deliveries for the day, but the general hours of work are between 48 and 55 hours per week, with typically one to two nights out per week. Occasional weekend work may be on offer.

Rate of pay vary and are based on experience, however typically a Class 1 driver would earn around £530 per week for 55 hours plus extra overtime is regularly available; in addition to this drivers receive an overnight allowance of £25 per night out.

* 28 days paid holiday, rising to 31 days after one years completed service;

* Driver CPC training paid for by the Company (limited to one course per year of employment).

Requirements for the role:

* C+E entitlement on licence;

* Manufacturing a range of products, such as concrete lintels, steel lintels, dry cast / wet cast / precast concrete products;
* Operation of the mixer/batching plant;
* Lorry loading and gantry work;
* Preparation of moulds;
* Assembly of steel reinforced cages;
* Crane Operation;
* Fork lift truck driving;
* Housekeeping;

Experience of working in a similar environment would mean preferential rates of pay, as would possession of a fork lift truck licence.

The Production Operative / Manufacturing and Yard Personnel / Concrete Worker shifts are Monday to Friday 5.55am - 3pm or 6.55am - 4pm consisting of 42.75 hours. Flexibility is essential as is a willingness to work overtime when required. There may also be an opportunity for overtime including Saturdays.
