A lovely SEN School for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties requires a talented Teaching Assistant ideally with an NVQ 3 in childcare (or equivalent) for supply cover. The post is for 5 days per week supporting students with PMLD and complex needs, and has a high possibility of becoming more long-term.

Applicants will ideally have a background in SEN to meet the demands of the role. The post will be providing one to one support to children, providing some curriculum support, assisting with playground and playtime activities, helping with personal care and independence work.

Roles & Responsibilities of Activities Coordinator

* Help Clients to socialise within the Care Centre, and provide a variety of activities that cater for all tastes.

* Plan and initiate monthly rolling / individual programmes, and encourage Clients to maintain pre- existing hobbies.

* Encourage Staff Members, Relatives and Friends to participate in the Care Centre's activities.

* Accompany Clients, where possible, to off site activities, which may occasionally take place outwith normal working hours.

* Help to create an atmosphere that suits individual Clients within the Care Centre.

* Assist with fund raising, and budgeting, for entertainments, materials and outings.

* Maintain full and accurate records of daily activities using appropriate documentation, and assist the Named Carer to review and update Client Care Files.

* Discuss the aims and objectives of recreation therapy with other Staff Members

* Report any changes in Clients' physical or emotional condition to the Home Manager or Person in Charge.

* Provide comfort and company, on a one to one basis, for Clients who are unable to undertake any form of activity.

* Arrange / participate in Staff and Client meetings, as and when required.

* Actively market the Care Centre and promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Care Centre at all times.

* Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.

* Understand and ensure the implementation of the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.

* Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

* Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre

Responsibilities and Duties of Care Assistant -

* Ensure that the needs of residents are met in a patient and caring manner.

* Help residents who need assistance with dressing, personal hygiene and toileting when required, respecting residents’ rights to exercise choice in all areas of their life.

* Assist residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities to move freely within the Home.

* Contribute to information used in care plans with residents and their families/significant others and implement care as agreed, respecting the resident’s right to exercise choice.

* Provide a high standard of care and service at all times.

* Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity for residents through talking to them, listening to them, escorting on outings, and working with the resident to enable them to pursue hobbies and interests both in and outside the Home.

* Report to the Senior Care Assistant /Manager on duty changes in residents’ condition or any concerns you might have.

* Ensure that all written reports are accurate and legible.

* Take part in staff meetings and training activities as required.

* Answer emergency bells and if necessary call senior member of staff on duty; answer the main door bell and greet visitors with politeness and warmth.

* Understand and put into practice any required health and safety at work initiatives.

* Undertake any additional duties as required at the request of the Senior Care Assistant/ Deputy in charge.
