Rapiscan Systems are an industry leader in detection technology, providing cargo and vehicle inspection systems and services.
We are looking for a Radiation Physicist, to specifically work on the design, implementation and V&V of high-energy X-ray sources and detector assemblies.
Key Responsibilities of the Radiation Physicist:
- Develop tools and techniques to help anticipate system imaging performance for future units, analyse X-ray images on current units and identify faults/failures on existing systems
- Collaborate with linear accelerator and detector vendors to trial and test new modes of operation, configurations and designs for enhanced X-ray image performance capabilities
- Develop and maintain analytical models to predict detector response to X-ray illumination
- Explore operator assist tools using image analytics and deep learning techniques
- Support programs and projects to deliver fully compliant X-ray imaging systems at customer acceptance tests, both on site and at customer facilities world-wide
- Take an active role in the support of radiation exposure, leakage and safety aspects for the operation of new and existing linear accelerator platforms
- Take responsibility for the design of X-ray based imaging systems for inspection of cargo and vehicles
- Undertake system-level design and underlying physics analysis

Skills & Experience Required:
- A postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in physics although graduates with relevant industrial experience will be considered
- Graduate/Postgraduate experience in radiation physics with experimental background

- Ability to work with others in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced product development environment
- Willingness to support offsite (worldwide) programs of work often at short notice
- Experience with programming in C++ to create Geant4 Monte Carlo models in Windows and Linux
- Exposure to deep learning techniques for image classification would be advantageous
