The Client

To create schedules for door-sets and joinery to allow, enable, the purchase of materials and services for the successful completion of projects on time and in budget.

Key Responsibilities

Links with Sales/Estimating – To assist in sustaining relationship and securing new orders
Links with Estimating – Attend handover meetings to determine different work packages and the requirements prior to order
Links with Project Manager in the Production of master schedule for projects
Links with QS to communicate change/variations
Work closely with suppliers to ensure compliant / correct door-sets are supplied
To carry out assessments of all drawings and specification to ensure compliance
Produce and manage RFI process
Produce and maintain journal log
Site measures where applicable
Collaborate with CAD team where applicable
Assist buyer where necessary
Communicate with project manager on progress
Manage changes to drawings/registers

Document Register

Reviewing drawings and distributing to the relevant team members

Checking drawings and door schedule, agreeing details and raising queries by way of RFI’s
Ensuring we are compliant with the NBS specification
Checking details on the drawings/door schedule as to sections of timber, specification and requirements e.g. architraves, fire rating, finish, intumescent seals, frame size and structural opening etc…Confirming undercut and tolerances required.

Ironmongery

Reviewing ironmongery schedules and deciding what details are required on the spreadsheet. This information is used for production of the door-sets and the control of the fitting on site. Checking there are no anomalies within the schedule and raising queries by RFI’s
Ensuring all ironmongery fitting positions are detailed. Checking hinge positions comply with the door certification. Preparing drawings/information for the door set production

Co-ordinate Progress

Ensure RFI’s are followed up and actioned.
Reviewing production log regularly checking production dates in co-ordination with Production Manager.
Producing information required by Contracts Managers and Site Foreman.
Informing Operations Manager of potential orders in good time so production can book production slots.
Assisting with maintaining CIS buying material requisition for reporting in co-ordination with QS/AQS.

The Client

Our well-established client who are one of the market leaders specialising in delivering high profile bespoke joinery products including different types of joinery packages. Due to expansion our client is now looking for a Contracts Manager to co-ordinate each project from concept to completion.

The Role

Communication and Customer Service

You will be responsible for all aspects of customer service with a proactive approach ensuring customers’ expectations are exceeded using a Service level Agreement.
Liaison with production to understand manufacturing lead times to construct a programme based on clients wishes and what the factory can realistically achieve.
You will gauge & manage client expectations, produce samples, identify potential quality issues, seek RFI and sequence work in line with the agreed programme.

Technical Aptitude - Surveying

A thorough understanding of site surveying; including access arrangements, fixing methodology, sequencing and quality.
Site measure all types of joinery items and communicate your needs
Ensure seamless and effective fitting of goods manufactured in the production facility.

Managing Multiple Projects - Scheduling/Planning/Efficiency

Schedule works on multiple jobs to ensure our customers requirement are met. This will include liaising with the production department re manufactured items.
You will be expected to build your own network of sub-contract labour – selection, training and appraisal.
Overall you will be fully responsible for the project, co-ordinating materials and sub-contract labour to satisfy clients expectations.
A measure of efficiency will be exit costs from the sub-contractor i.e. no additional unrecoverable costs

Logistics

You will be responsible for all the inputs in carrying out projects including effective site measures, timely requests for information, accurate drawings and work instructions, receipt of materials.
To ensure that quality is acceptable on manufactured items, components complete and fitting instructions and drawings are provided for site operatives.
All logistics would be under your remit including the effective delivery and unloading of all goods.

Managing Quality

An understanding of what constitutes acceptable quality will allow you to ensure that goods manufactured in the workshop and fitted on-site are always suitable for purpose i.e. meets customers’ expectations. Our expectation is that all fitted products are signed off and are snag-free.

Managing Performance

To embrace a culture of excellence and ensure our sub-contractors are given the best opportunity to succeed in the project.
To provide data to assess the performance of manufacturing and sub-contract teams. Our expectation is that these departments are given continual feedback on their productivity/quality levels and are reflected in future business activity.

Managing HASAW

A thorough understanding of H&S requirements
Produce risk-assessments, method statements and tool-box talks.
Ensure necessary checks are taking place. Non-conformances are raised, assessed and closed out timely.
Responsible for all HASAW issues and site safety.

Commercial Awareness

You will need to demonstrate commercial awareness i.e. understand the wider environment in which an organisation operates: its customers, competitors and suppliers.
Awareness of the need for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, customer excellence and a knowledge of the market place in which the company operates. you will also need to be experienced in Change Management (of the project) i.e. managing variations (VRF forms) and ensuring we are reimbursed for extra work, out of sequence and delays

The Candidate

For this role any successful candidate will need to have a background in bespoke furniture/joinery. The role involves several different skills including manufacture, logistics, quality and installation so a technical understanding of the sector and a knowledge of the products are a necessity. The client is looking for a pro-active candidate who is also prepared to do some travelling as you may be asked to visit some of the sites to oversee the installation.

Overall Responsibility

Responsibilities

Design intent to CAD drawings:
The main aspect of the role is to convert either Designers / Architects design intent drawings (or sketches) into worktable technical drawings for joinery manufacture.
You will be required to carry out technical design work (computer aided design) using AutoCAD software package.
All drawings will need to be fully detailed & laid out on ‘paperspace’ for Client review
Designing bespoke furniture from client specifications

Key Responsibilities / Competence

Templates / blocks / layouts
Any down time can be used to update: Templates / blocks library / layouts etc.

Production hand-over
The CAD technician will be required to hand-over any production ready works to the operations manager, discussing all design details & materials specifications.

Production drawings
If work is carried out in-house, signed-off CAD drawings will need to be converted into production drawings. These drawings may need converting into DXF files for CNC manufacture.

Online portholes (4P / Aconox / iGo / etc)
Project drawings are to be uploaded onto online Portholes as a matter of record.
All signed-off drawings are to be issued as: ‘Construction Issue’

Achieving sign-off
Once a CAD drawing is completed it is to be issued to Client for comment and / or approval.

Revisions
All drawing revisions are to have a new revision number & the list of changes are to be detailed on the right-hand side of ‘paperspace’ layout.

Working to deadlines
Each project has deadlines. It the responsibility of the CAD Technician to be fully aware of deadline dates & strive to achieve them. If deadlines cannot be met the Project manager must be informed, giving them plenty of notice

RFI’s / correspondence:
Any information required to facilitate CAD drawing is to be clearly listed & issued to the Project Manager or Project Co-ordinator in a timely manner. It is vitally important that the date information is required by is to be noted with each query.

Site surveys
Either the project manager or Project Co-ordinator is to assist with sourcing accurate & detailed site surveys. These are to be dated & stored in site survey folder for each area.

Folders & drawing numbers
All prepared AutoCAD drawings are to be stored in correct & relevant folders. Also, each project is to have drawing numbers set-up & used for every issued drawing
