About the role:

- Development of the overall project Engineering and Design Execution Strategy;
- Development of project specific instructions and procedures (if required);

- Leads the technical part of the Contract review;
- Supports development of manpower histograms for projects;
- Participates and supports project planning by providing engineering milestones and requirements.
- Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex designs.
- Participates in risk management for the engineering concerns;

- Participates in contract management by initiating, collecting and consolidating the variation requests and change orders;
- Alerts project management in case of variations (scope/cost/schedule/quality) and suggests if needed mitigation measures;
- Ensures that the engineering final documentation is properly prepared and filed
- Escalates resourcing issues to the Regional/Global Head of Engineering.

We are currently recruiting a Senior Commissioning Engineer to be based in Hersham, UK or in Saudi Arabia. This position can also be home based.

This is a site and office based role, it is expected that the incumbent will spend extended periods on sites within Europe, Africa, Russia and the Middle East.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will:

Participate in commissioning of Air Products Air Separation and Flammable Gas Processing plants world-wide, mostly for third party customers as experience dictates, the Start Up engineer will be expected to manage the day to day responsibility for pre-commissioning, commissioning and plant start-up through to performance test and local operator training 75% of the time.

Work within Air Products Engineering offices during periods of low, on-site commissioning commitments. Activities during this period may include – Flow sheet development, Manual and execution procedure preparation as well as support to bid activities and commissioning plans development.

The Senior Commissioning Engineer will refer back to the Start-up Manager or the Project Manager on project specific issues or any commissioning or safety related issues. The Start Up engineer will adhere to all AP safety policies, appropriate engineering standards, engineering procedures and industry standards. The incumbent will support delivery of the projects KPI’s, including cascading safety, quality and schedule KPI’s onto every individual in the team.

The Senior Commissioning Engineer will provide site leadership in EH&S ensuring prompt prioritisation and coordination of all risks, issues and unforeseen issues at site, escalating as required.

The Senior Commissioning Engineer must be able to provide routine reports on site status and issues for management, as they will often be the only AP representative at site.

The most challenging part of the job is that schedules are often tight. There can be a lot of pressure on the commissioning team to get the plant on-stream and supply of gas and liquid products established to the customer. Planning and communicating for this is an essential requirement of the role.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer you will have:

* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant HSE qualification
* Minimum 5 years site experience working in chemical, petrochemical or related process industries.
* Start-up, commissioning or plant operating experience an advantage Cryogenic Air Separation and Flammable gas plant experience preferred
* Have an understanding and to be knowledgeable in aspects of process commissioning of systems and equipment
* Cross discipline skills in electrical, controls, instruments are an advantage
* A strong knowledge of relevant industrial standards and work processes to ensure safe and practical installation and commissioning through the pre-commissioning to start-up and performance test phases.
* A Team Player with Strong Process safety management experience
* Strong and effective leader and coordinator with good written and oral in English language: good presentation and report writing skills
* Strong planning, coordination and risk management and interpersonal skills.
* Organised, disciplined, able to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities and parallel tasks
* Flexible attitude to travel, sometimes at short notice and be prepared for extended periods away from home
* Good knowledge of Government legislation, international regulations and HSE best practice.
* NEBOSH or equivalent certification.
* Saudi Aramco experience
