The Knaresborough and Boroughbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team is responsible for policing the two towns together with the large rural area on the eastern side of Harrogate District, covering eleven local authority wards and a combined population of around 40,000. The area serves as a commuter belt for the surrounding large urban centres and local employment is provided primarily by light industry, agriculture, retail and service industries and tourism.

The area enjoys a low crime rate making its neighbourhoods amongst the safest in North Yorkshire which itself is acknowledged to be one of the safest counties in England.

The team works with representatives of other statutory and voluntary agencies including the Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership, Education Authority and local schools, local councillors and Neighbourhood Watch, seeking to solve problems in partnership with communities and other stakeholders. Much of the activity of the team involves engagement with those communities, ensuring that people are aware of who their local safer neighbourhoods officer is, how to contact them and how to raise issues and influence which issues are considered a priority.
