Halbert Crescent in Stirling dates from 1967
I have been trying to work out the origin of the name and have a few ideas.
Officers of Stirling Town Council patrolled the streets until the 1890's dressed in bright scarlet coats and equipped with Halberds (sometimes spelt at the time as Halberts) these were like pikes.
Halbert Tatlock was a popular Scottish radio and theatre actor and playwright who got involved in Drama events in St Ninians. He was active in the 1920's and 30's and died in 1963.
There was a place which is known as Halbert's bog which was part of the battlefield at Bannockburn in 1314.
Looking at the newspaper archive there have been a few people locally with the surname Halbert but none famous enough to have a street named after them.
The name "Halbert" is often associated with the historic weaponry known as the Halberd. However, I don't believe that this theory has necessarily been proven. Nonetheless, the "Halbert" Coat of Arms contains a Chevron with three battle axes, which may provide some authenticity to the theory.
Thank you for the information regarding Halbert's Bog and its connection to the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. It is interesting to know that my surname was associated with a historic event, even if it only comprised the name of a bog.
My paternal grandfather, Andrew Halbert (b: 1883, d: 1953) was born in the Bridgeton District of Glasgow and immigrated to Canada around 1911. Given Glasgow's fairly close proximity to Stirling, I would not be surprised that some Halbert relatives may still be situated throughout the Scottish landscape.

I am trying to find out why the lane is named Swing Swang?
It has been known known this since at least 1905 when hedge making contents used to be held here.
Swing Swang is often used to describe a fairground ride. I remember Swing Boats. Were they a bit like this or is Swing Swang another name for swings?
Swing Swangs are also mentioned in connection to orchards. Or were orchards just good places to have swings?
