Ford is primarily a residential area with a few local shops and two supermarkets. The majority of housing is privately owned or rented.

The area has one school, Ford Primary School.

There is a Community and Youth Centre at Cambridge Road.  The centre has an excellent gym.

In the centre of Ford there is St Levan Park which has a play park and seperate open grass area which has football goals and a basketball shooting court. It is also used by dog walkers.

Ford has an population of approximately 4,000 people. The five most common offences in the area are domestic incidents, criminal damage to vehicles, assault, theft from motor vehicles and criminal damage to dwellings.

There is an excellent Neighbourhood Watch Scheme for the streets around the park which covers approximately 5,000 residents. Pictured below are PCSO Kathy Brown with two of the co-ordinators Mike Blatchford and Paul Squire next to the community noticeboard in the park which was donated by Devon and Cornwall Police and contains lots of useful information.

Origin of the Road Name Alexandra Road

Alexandra Road is named after Queen Alexandra.

Alexandra of Denmark was born in Copenhagen Denmark on the 1st December 1844.  She married Queen Victoria’s son Albert Edward Prince of Wales in 1863 to become Princess of Wales.

Together they had six children the second son would later be crowned Kind George V.

Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 Albert Edward became Edward VII and Alexandra Queen Alexandra.

Following Edwards’s death aged 68 in 1910 and the coronation of her son George. Alexandra became Queen Mother.  She died following a heart attack at Sandringham, Norfolk in 1925 aged 80.
