Neighbourhood Policing

Find a Local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

Yealmpstone and Plympton St Maurice incorporating Underwood is one of the largest areas of Plympton which is a very low crime suburb to the east of Plymouth.

Yealmpstone in a residential area, Plympton St Maurice is mainly a residential area with most people living within walking distance of The Ridgeway with its shops and community facilities.

Underwood is mostly a residential area on the south west side of Plympton and has a commerical area in Valley Road.

Yealmpstone and Plympton St Maurice has a dedicated Police Constable (PC) and Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's).

Plympton is a safe place to live with the likelihood of being a victim of crime falling well below the national average. The neighbourhood’s main problems are spontaneous incidents of vandalism committed by those passing through the area.

There are also problems with the fear of crime. Some of this is created by differing views of what is acceptable causing relatively low-level behaviour being interpreted as a significant threat.

As your local Neighbourhood Police Team, we know only too well that tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is not just a job for the police.  Besides relying heavily on the co-operation of the local community, we work very closely with various partner organisations and individuals in the city.  We have a particularly close working relationship with a wide range of staff from many different departments of Plymouth City Council who are invaluable in terms of helping us make your neighbourhood a safer and better place to be.   For example we rely on the Council's Anti Social Behaviour Unit for specialist help in securing Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, court injunctions and drug den closures.  We work alongside this unit and local housing officers in any cases where residents may be evicted from their homes.  When it comes to common problems such as graffiti. littering, dog fouling and noisy neighbours, we join forces with the Council's Environmental Protection Team to deal with offenders.  And in dealing with young people who are either causing trouble in their local communities - or are likely to get drawn into anti-social behaviour - we team up with the Youth Offending Service, various other Council youth services and local schools.
