I was wondering what the origin was for Temple Lane and the adjacent Bishopdale Lane that leads to Kidstones.
Downstream we have Redmire, where there is an ancient church site (St Marys) and nearby Well Lane leading down to the River Ure? Is there a connection to Cedd who undertook a Christian mission in 653 AD, travelling from Lindisfarne through Northumbria (Yorkshire to Lancashire), Mercia (The Midlands) and Essex. Often the villages named after him are associated with oratories and later churches called St Mary, after 664 AD. Also he has been associated with glacial erratics that he stood upon to preach - are there any such erratics/large stones or wells known in this area linked to Cedd? The name 'Bishopdale Lane' suggest he may have walked this path, as he became Bishop of Essex and London in 654AD.

I am trying to find out why the lane is named Swing Swang?
It has been known known this since at least 1905 when hedge making contents used to be held here.
Swing Swang is often used to describe a fairground ride. I remember Swing Boats. Were they a bit like this or is Swing Swang another name for swings?
Swing Swangs are also mentioned in connection to orchards. Or were orchards just good places to have swings?
